The SPT provides both portable and fixed machinery that solve complex machining requirements in explosive environments, minimal space conditions including protective containment, remote and underwater operations, harsh weather conditions and more.

These include solutions for cutting pipe, tube and vessels from .5” to 45’ diameter with specific weld preparation geometry on wall thickness in excess of 12” and flange re-facing on diameters in excess of 14’.

PARTIAL LIST OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Pressure Vessel Refurbishment Machine
Removal of MOS remnant and PT indications on omega seal surfaces. Surface flatness requirement was ±0.002” over a span of 85”. Utilized milling technology.

Portable Pipe Cutting, Beveling & Grooving Machine Kits
Portable “Rapid Deployment” pipeline field kits used to machine Victaulic-type grooves on fuel and water piping systems used to supply forward field units. These machines were designed to be easily operated by military personnel. Utilized lathe-type technology.

Munitions Decommissioning Station
Remote operated stationary bomb cutting stations used to cut bomb casings for demolition and disposal. E.H. Wachs provided on-site supervision for the stations’ installation. Utilized lathe-type technology.

Heavy Duty Wheel Cutting Machine
Remote operated twelve-inch chipless wheel cutting machines to perform high speed cut off. Utilized chipless wheel cutting technology.

Munitions Cutting Lathe
Portable cutting lathes to sever rejected munitions of various sizes, in a low production setting. A special metallic hard coating was used to protect the machine and components from a corrosive wash-down environment. Utilized lathe-type technology.

Ton Container Cutting Station – Chemical Agent Disposal Facility
Chipless wheel cutting stations for decommissioning nerve gas storage units referred to as Ton Containers. The station was remotely operated and performed in a glove box-type environment to minimize human interaction. Utilized high-speed chipless wheel cutting technology.

Ton Container Cutting Station and Conveyor System – Chemical Agent Disposal Facility

High Speed Projectile Cutting Machines (PMD Cutters) for removing fuse adapters from 6” (155mm) projectiles. This machine was built to operate twenty hours per day and operate remotely in glove box conditions. Utilized high-speed lathe-cutting technology.
